Risk assessments & method statements

Last night I followed the sat nav to the Great Hall Westminster, pulled up and asked 3 boys in blue where it was as I couldn’t see it, not here - its at the back of Westminster Abbey they told me, off I went,
drove around Parliament Square, up & down back streets, finally pulled up and asked a pedestrian at a crossroads, straight over this junction he said, its the building with the big yellow flag, can you see it he said - its the one with the three policemen stood under it!!
Yes, we were outside it when we asked them, it doesn’t have a sign on it, it took us 30 minutes but remarkably were still on time - unfortunately at the self same time as we arrived a Save the NHS Socialist Worker Rally converged on the same building because they had discovered that Angela Lansbury* (Minister in charge of ballsing up the NHS) was inside.
In the melee that followed, I (trying to deliver 4 Football Tables) managed to knock three people over - the first one was tricky - I had to use a tool box to clip him, the other two were easy, imagine human dominoes.
Fearing the worst I helped them to their feet, they were all very jolly and declared (one of them really did this) that they were glad that they had been knocked over by a doctor because I could have treated them if they had been injured. What the f**k did they think I was doing with four football table legs and a tool box under my arms if I was a doctor, what did they think I was, an orthopaedic surgeon?
Anyway, they were all very jolly and they formed a human corridor to let me get through without further maiming, I’m thinking of joining.
* I am aware that Angela Lansbury is not the Minister of Health, she is the Home Secretary and I’ve told her about the three woodentops who sent me the wrong way, she said that taking them out and shooting them in frontof their families was no longer an option but I did a pretty good job on the SWP trio so she would give me a fiver if I could do the same to three peelers but I’d run out of legs by then.
Totally unrelated but it strikes a note with every white van man in the country, seen on the side of a Ginsters van “Man cannot live by crisps alone”.

Trailer Security

Trailer Security Advice
We are confident that we offer some of the best Trailer, Horsebox and Caravan security devices on the market, combined with good practice you will hopefully be able to avoid the horrors of losing your caravan, trailer or horsebox.
By taking every possible precaution to protect your trailer, all will benefit by helping insurers to keep your premiums down, plus do you really want the hassle of loosing your trailer and anything in it?.
Trailer theft is a big problem and it’s getting worse! To a thief, an unsecured trailer is simply money on wheels that is just asking to be stolen.
There are steps you can take that will go some way to deter an opportunist thief since the vast majority of them are looking for an easy heist. If presented with an effective
theft deterrent the thief will invariably move on to easier targets….
The two biggest enemies for a thief are:
• time and
• noise.
Anything you can do to slow a thief down and make them generate noise will improve your chances of keeping your property. Here are some simple steps you can take:
• Park your trailer where it is least visible to people passing by. If it’s out of site, it’s out of mind.
• Don’t park your trailer with the front pointing towards the street/road / escape route.
• Remove one or all of the trailer wheels. Take the lug nuts too. Thieves frequently carry
spares with them.
• Use a chain or cable to secure your trailer to some stationary solid object.
Obviously, you may not want to take the time to remove a wheel every time you park your trailer so the use of some sort of trailer security device is the answer. When you’re on the road with your trailer, using a security device is the only answer. Trailer security devices fall into two basic categories.
1) Hitch locks
2) Wheel locks
Although hitch locks provide some measure of theft deterrence, thieves can defeat them reasonably easily and with very little noise.
Insurers recommend wheel locks because if thieves cannot move your trailer because one of the wheels is properly secured, it’s going to be tough to steal your trailer. Remember….time….noise.
A wheel lock must automatically prevent removal of the wheel on which it is installed. Many wheel locks available today just clamp onto the wheel and are not designed to prevent wheel removal. Those type wheel locks are very easy to defeat.
Helpful Tip
Always install the wheel lock on the “driver’s side” of your trailer because:
1. If potential thieves back their tow vehicle to your trailer, as they open the driver’s door of the tow vehicle they will probably see the wheel lock and be put off.
2. Installing your wheel lock on the driver’s side of the trailer helps remind you to remove the wheel lock before using your trailer.
- Remember….time….noise.
- Secure it and keep it.
- Ignore it and lose it.
- Don’t wait until it’s too late
