2012
20/12/2011 by admin.
Time to look ahead to the New Year I suppose, we already have a brisk diary for the New Year, January and February are never the busiest months for us but we offer some really good deals to keep ourselves busy and to bring new games online or to spruce up the traditional ones.
At times like this it is heartening to hear the British Spirit being voiced, hopefully we can emerge from the economic gloom stronger and better, even more importantly - lets all spare a thought for the people around the world who really are living in poverty - Christmas is a time for giving.

More Cars & Vans
13/12/2011 by admin.
Matchbox Toys, from an early age I had accompanied my Mum into Ross on a Saturday morning, George Masons was the main stop, then it was off to WH Smiths where I was allowed to choose a Matchbox toy, this was a demanding task, so many to choose from, I had a large collection. Occasionally I was allowed a Dinky car or a Corgi, Corgis were later generation and highly prized, lorries, tractors and vans, even an ice cream van were added to my collection. One Christmas I remember receiving a Chipperfields Circus lorry and trailer complete with Tiger and Lion, on another occasion it was a Massey Ferguson Combine Harvester which I still have though Ebay beckons.

Cars & Vans
13/12/2011 by admin.
My first memory of cars is a a bit confused, my mum and dad never owned a car or learnt to drive and so I suppose I was always going to be a bit more interested than most.
I remember being given an Observers Book of Automobiles which I still have somewhere, this was probably a first edition and if I could find it I could confirm whether it was dated 54 or 55, at about the same time my brother in law (who gave me the Observers Book) brought me home a poster of a Brabham Repco F1 car, he worked for a motor factor in Hereford and the poster was a joint effort from Ferodo, Koni, AP and probably one or two other suppliers, this was in the days before cars carried sponsors logos and colours.
I know that this would be a 1967 car and that Jack Brabham and Denny Hulme had been the drivers, the car was green and gold and sported Brabham Repco engines, not long afterwards the all conquering Cosworth DFVs would arrive, at about the same time Dan Gurney arrived on the same with the beautiful Eagle Weslake F1 car, a truly beautiful car from a company called Anglo American Racing, an exciting and glamorous name for a 12 year old having a pretty miserable time at Ross Grammar School, cars gave me my escape.
I must have had some interest previously because I remember the excitement of John Surtees becoming Formula 1 World Champion in 1964 driving a Ferrari and my uncle Cyril taking us (Uncle Cyril, Aunty Vera, my Mum & my Dad) for a drink and stopping at the New Harp in Hoarwithy where somebody reversed into his virtually brand new, black Hillman Imp which was a B reg so that was 1964, I was sat in the car at the time, outside with a bottle of Vimto, no crisps though

Charlie
20/11/2011 by admin.
Last night we lost Charlie, not too well for some time, Charlie suffered heart failure and passed away quite suddenly, we are very down in the dumps, he was 2 weeks short of his 12th birthday.
We first met him almost 12 years ago, the smallest of the litter and left on his own by the others, he was the obvious choice, he was darling of a pup, he house trained quickly, played at a 100mph then, stopped, dropped and slept.
Charlie wasn’t pretty - he was all animal, scruffy, clumsy and very often smelly, he snored and he waded through mud whenever an opportunity arose, he loved the quarry and it was a joy to take him there, I remember watching him break ice to swim in a pond and I once ran him over as he ran between the wheels of a pick up I was driving.
When Millie (my grand daughter) arrived 6 years ago Charlie was an adult dog who was used to being the centre of attention, all eyes were on him, there was no jealousy, he adored her, never gave her any peace, just wanted to play, she had to barricade the door of her Wendy house and use the window instead, otherwise he just got in there with her.
With a family grown up and living away from home it is unusual for everybody to be in the house on any single day, Charlie went on such a day, Ben, Steven and Kate, Janine & Millie all shared some time with Charlie on his very last day with us.
The most sociable of dogs, Charlie only ate if there was somebody there with him, he loved to share a packet of ginger nuts and we will always remember him as a truly wonderful dog, we miss him so badly.
